Crisis at Club América Amid FIFAGate Investigation

Tension in national football reached its peak this week with the news that Emilio Azcárraga, businessman and owner of Club América, resigned from his position at Televisa in support of an investigation by the United States Department of Justice related to the infamous FIFA Gate case.

Fans expressed great concern as a rumor emerged suggesting a possible collateral damage that could affect the most successful team in Liga MX and its related properties, such as the training facilities and Estadio Azteca. The rumor, fueled by doubts about the hosting of the 2026 World Cup at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula, intensified among supporters.

Recently, Diario Récord clarified that the current situation of the businessman should not affect the team or the property in Mexico City, as these are independent operations from the broadcaster facing bribery allegations concerning broadcasting rights. According to Brian Rodríguez, senior market analyst at Grupo Financiero Monex, Club América and Estadio Azteca operate autonomously from Televisa, as they are under the management of Grupo Ollamani.

"Azcárraga separated from Grupo Televisa after the FIFA Gate scandal. In light of this, Club América and Estadio Azteca will not be affected," Rodríguez stated in an interview with Diario Récord. It is important to highlight that Azcárraga's disconnection from Televisa is not definitive, as it is expected that once the case is clarified, the businessman will return to his position normally.
